We're back with part 2 of the term "Christmas tree".

We explained last week that the Christmas tree is used to make sure both cars are lined up equally and to signal the start of the race. This week we will talk about what the lights mean.

The top two sets of bulbs insure both cars are equally positioned aka "staged". The driver moves the car forward until the top bulb illuminates. The driver will then creep the car forward at a much slower pace until the second bulb illuminates. Once both lights are on the car is considered staged. As soon as both cars are staged, the amber lights will illuminate shortly followed by the green light signaling the start of the race. The trick is to take off as soon as the green light comes on. If the car moves before the green light comes on, the red light will illuminate and the car is disqualified.
